Cancer Genetic Counselor Keck School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, is seeking outstanding applicants to fill a Part‑time Medical Oncology Genetic Counselor position at Los Angeles General Medical Center (LAGMC). LAGMC is one of the largest public hospitals in the country and a leading teaching hospital. This position is a unique opportunity to work in an academic setting with an experienced and motivated team to address disparities in genetics. The patient population at LAGMC reflects the diversity of Los Angeles, and this genetic counselor will strive to provide compassionate and culturally informed genetic counseling. Because the majority of patients seen are non‑English, primarily Spanish‑speaking, this role offers the chance to develop and hone counseling skills in other languages and to create linguistically and literacy‑appropriate materials. Responsibilities Providing cancer genetic counseling services in a busy academic clinical medical oncology setting. Overseeing patient care, providing genetic counseling, coordinating follow‑up visits and cascade genetic testing, providing test results to patients, obtaining and reviewing medical records. Conducting outreach to patients, families, the medical community, and stakeholders. Collaborating with a growing team of other genetic counselors, physicians, and researchers at the University of Southern California and the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. Salary Salary Range: $68,640.00 – $68,640.00. Minimum Requirements Master’s degree‑level education in Genetics. American Board of Genetic Counseling Certification or active candidate for certification. Less than one year of clinical experience. Familiarity with standard industry concepts, practices, and procedures; experience in cancer genetic counseling clinics and/or in reaching underserved patient populations; advanced judgment, analytical, and decision‑making skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; excellent written and oral communication skills. Preferred Qualifications M.S. in Genetic Counseling, Board‑eligible or Board‑certified. One year or more of experience in genetic counseling. Fluency in Spanish (additional languages desirable). Two years of experience in hereditary cancer risk assessment and counseling. Preferred field of expertise: Genetic counseling, cancer risk assessment. Ability to draft detail‑oriented communications, reports and content for publications; demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills; extensive knowledge of cultural issues such as immigration, socioeconomic and LGBTQIA+; fluency in one or more languages in addition to English.
