Description The Senior Programmer will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying the software that drives our interactive and immersive experiences. This position requires a unique balance of technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and live event production awareness. In this role, you will architect and implement software systems that support complex installations, interactive environments, and experiential designs. You will lead projects from initial concept through to final delivery, collaborating closely with creative, production, and technology teams, as well as clients and vendors. Beyond development, you will be onsite during activations, overseeing technical integration, troubleshooting in real time, and ensuring flawless execution in high-pressure environments. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on bringing ambitious ideas to life, enjoys hands-on involvement in live productions, and can seamlessly bridge the gap between creative vision and practical implementation. Tasks and Responsibilities In the Studio Lead the technical design and implementation of creative projects, working closely on cross-functional teams and delegating tasks to other programmers to transform concepts into reality Architect and develop software solutions across various technology stacks, always with an eye toward the right balance of code elegance and practical delivery Mentor junior programmers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow their skills Contribute to our team's technical standards and best practices, while staying current with emerging technologies Create and maintain clear documentation and site-plans, ensuring your solutions can be understood and supported by the wider team On Location/Project Activation Lead end-to-end technical implementation of immersive installations, overseeing software deployment, hardware integration, and the on-site programming team to deliver seamless live experiences Solve challenges in real time, leveraging live production expertise to adapt quickly under pressure while guiding the team toward efficient, creative solutions Collaborate across disciplines — production, creative, design, and technical — to ensure every element of the experience integrates smoothly and aligns with the client’s vision Continuously monitor system performance during activations, coordinating with technicians and operators to troubleshoot on the fly and uphold flawless execution Champion teamwork and communication on-site, fostering a collaborative environment where designers, engineers, and producers work together to bring complex experiential projects to life Draw on live production experience to anticipate potential roadblocks, ensuring technical readiness, creative alignment, and operational efficiency throughout the event lifecycle Beyond your technical skills, you're someone who : Communicates with clarity and confidence, translating complex technical concepts into accessible language for both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment across creative, production, and client teams Proactively identifies challenges before they escalate, taking initiative to design solutions and safeguard project success, even in fast-paced or unpredictable live event environments Thrives as a mentor and collaborator, supporting the growth of teammates, sharing knowledge openly, and fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team Balances competing priorities with sound judgment, making smart technical decisions that respect creative intent, production timelines, and real-world constraints Embraces creative problem-solving, finding innovative solutions to seemingly impossible requests and transforming ambitious ideas into executable, audience-ready experiences Performs under pressure, staying composed and resourceful onsite at activations, guiding teams with steady leadership through last-minute changes or technical challenges Bridges creativity and technology, approaching every project with curiosity, adaptability, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of experiential design Requirements Proficiency in Python, with the ability to design, build, and optimize software systems for interactive and immersive experiences 3+ years of hands-on TouchDesigner experience (required), including the development and deployment of real-time interactive installations, generative visual content, and complex control systems Familiarity with modern web stacks and architecture, including APIs, client–server communication, and frameworks that support integration of interactive front-end and back-end systems Experience with Generative AI tools and frameworks (highly desirable) — while not required, exposure to AI-driven workflows and creative coding is a strong asset for pushing the boundaries of experiential design Knowledge of Audio/Visual Integration (highly desirable), including projection mapping, media servers, signal flow, and synchronization between hardware and software in live production environments Strong understanding of interactive systems, real-time content pipelines, and cross-platform integration, with the adaptability to experiment with new technologies quickly A passion for innovation and creative problem-solving, bringing technical curiosity and resourcefulness to complex experiential challenges Full Time Salary Exempt Salary range from $110,000.00 to $156,000.00 annually Located in Los Angeles, CA Work is hybrid, Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Seniority level : Mid-Senior level Employment type : Full-time Job function : Engineering and Information Technology Industries : Design Services VTProDesign is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates. #J-18808-Ljbffr VTProDesign
